On Friday, November 30, in Malabo, President Muhammadu Buhari stated that leaders of neighboring countries should work together and provide all the necessary assistance to secure the Gulf of Guinea.

Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s spokesperson stated in a statement that Buhari gave the assurance at a bilateral meeting on the sideline of the 2019 Gas Summit with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea.

Buhari showed concern over the rate of piracy, kidnapping, and smuggling in the Gulf of Guinea and called for more united efforts to end the tide of illegality.

“Our neighborhood is very strong. Our Navy is doing a good job.”

In agreement with Nguema, who hosted the summit, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea will provide joint forces to secure Gulf, the president stated.
