Governor Hope Uzodinma of APC’s victory over Emeka Ihedioha of PDP has caused a relatively massive defection with the state’s Speaker of House of Assembly, Collins Chiji, leading the move from PDP to APC just to retain his position.

So far, a total of Seven other lawmakers have joined Collins Chiji to the APC from the PDP.

The Imo State Speaker of House of Assembly Collins Chiji announced his defection and alongside his colleagues during plenary on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

The plenary only lasted for 15 minutes and came to an abrupt end after the speaker announced the names of the lawmakers who are defecting.

Here are the names of lawmakers who have moved to APC

The Speaker, Collins Chiji, Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru), Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West) Chigozie Nwaneri(Oru East), Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West), Kennedy Ibe (Obowo) Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma), and Eddy Obinna (Aboh Mbaise).

Currently, APC holds 18 seats in Imo State House of Assembly against 9 others in a total of 27 seats in the state’ House. There are strong, although unverified news flying around that the state House will face more defection in APC’s advantage.

Recall that on the 21st of January nine lawmakers defected to the APC in Imo from the AA and PDP, just a week following the Supreme Court removed Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP as Imo governor and declared Hope Uzodinma of the APC winner of the March 9, 2019 state election.

Meanwhile, the APC had no existing lawmaker in the 27 seats of Imo state House of Assembly as at when Uzodinma was declared governor by the Supreme Court on January 14 this year.
