Coronavirus seems to have ushered in a new era of global control as the balance of power slowly slips away from the US due to Donald Trump’s new policies.
This was never so more evident than at the World Health Organisation (WHO) annual assembly that was held in Geneva. Europe refused to back their long time allies, USA, who was looking for more stringent investigations into China’s hand in the coronavirus pandemic that has plagued the world.
Since coming into office, Trump has been slowly alienating his allies with his policies, starting with ‘America First’.
His continued disregard for respectable relations as well as pulling the USA out of various treaties and world organizations have now led to a sudden shift in the balance of power.
It is a well-known fact that America once held the top spot at the head of the table of power with Europe and China just waiting for a chance to take over.
It seems Trump’s isolation of allies is what led to Europe finally stand up to the US and rejected the president’s proposal to further investigate China in a bid assign blame for the global coronavirus pandemic.
German Chancellor Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron to the opportunity to express their displeasure with presidents handling of the coronavirus pandemic by selfishly pulling funding at a time the world should be uniting.
Leaders such as Swiss President Simonetta Sommaruga all took jabs at President Donald Trump new policy of isolation.
Many countries have been disapproving of Trump’s attitude to the seriousness of this global pandemic encouraging the opening of the country with America recording new infection rates of over 20,000 people per day.
It seems that Trump’s actions have removed the respect the other nations once held for world power.
There was now an opportunity arising for a new power to take over as America lacked the leadership expected of it at the time the world needed it the most.
Besides the tragically high death rates as well the shutting down of the world, COVID-19 may also be remembered as the beginning of a new era of power dominance as the balance ofo power finally shifted out of America’s grasp.
