Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris laughed when she was asked Monday if she has a plan to visit the US-Mexico border, where a humanitarian and security crisis is currently going on as thousands of Central American migrants have made their way in recently.
“Not today,” said Kamala Harris, who previously represented border-adjacent California when she was a senator, and then, she laughed before adding, “But I have before, and I’m sure I will again.”
The Vice President gave the response as shown on a video that was shared to social media during a Monday visit to Jacksonville, Fla. to promote the passage of a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.
Even President Joe Biden who previously said he had no plans to tour the crossing, has committed to making the trip at some point when asked about it on Sunday.
Biden administration has come under attack for its crisis response system, which has allowed migrants including thousands of unaccompanied children flock to the border at levels that haven’t been seen in 20 years after Biden began back rolling Trump immigration policies.
The Biden administration is also facing backlash for a restrictive approach to media access of the fiasco, not minding the repeated assurances from White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki that journalists could tour border detention facilities if they want.
