DMX’s ex-wife Tashera Simmons has described the late hard-core rapper as her “best friend” and “mentor” in a tribute following his death.
Tashera who’s the mother of four of DMX’s 15 kids shared a tribute to her ex-husband on Saturday in a photo montage that should have been a happy celebration of her 50th birthday.

Taking it to Instagram Tashera wrote “Happy 50th birthday to me,” as she dropped crying heart and a broken heart emojis for her ex who died on Friday.
“Now I also celebrate my ex-husband, my best friend, my spiritual partner, my mentor,” she said of the rapper, who was also aged 50 when he died in White Plains Hospital following a reported April 2 drug overdose.
“I also thank God for his life and his peace and his journey, and his life lessons that was passed on and that will live on for generations to come,” she said in a voiceover during the video montage.
Tashera said in her caption, that she was crying over the roller coaster of emotions on her special day.
“I couldn’t bring myself to just celebrate and close the last 50yrs of my life with out celebrating the life of one of thee most important person in the world to me, my Ex-husband,” she wrote.
“I am so grateful to God and Honored from the bottom of my heart, for the opportunity while on this journey called life to join hands in marriage with a true disciple and Angel of God to do life with when we did,” she wrote along with a praying-hands emoji.

Tashera Simmons was married to DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons from 1999 to 2014. They have four children together: Xavier, 28, Tacoma, 21, Sean, 18, and Praise Mary Ella, 15.
