Van Jones is one of Kim Kardashian’s closest pal despite the fact that they’re not dating and have made everyone believe that they are just friends.
There’s a new documentary, “The First Step,” which reveals how Van and Kim teamed up in 2018 before their meeting with former President Donald Trump to discuss prison reform.
A source said that the process leading to the sit-down and the meeting itself left Van “blown away” by Kim.
“Van was blown away by Kim’s poise and persuasiveness in such a critical meeting with Trump. That moment truly solidified their relationship and laid the groundwork for them to keep working together to reform the criminal justice system,” the insider said.
The documentary which recently premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival showed the CNN host and the reality TV star’s friendly disposition is evident from the beginning.
After Van launched a double kiss on Kim he said, “I got the Hollywood kiss down,” to which the reality star responded in jest, “Don’t ruin the makeup,” while the political commentator gave the businesswoman a pep talk about how they would pitch the First Step Act to then-president Trump.
Van told Kim, “The president can stay with this issue and get stronger on it or it can fall off the radar screen. We just have to keep this candle lit. It doesn’t have to be the biggest torch in the room, but it’s got to stay lit.”
Both Van Jones and Kim Kardashian then sat down for an interview together, in which the CNN host seemed very happy by Kim’s remarks, nodding in agreement alongside her most of the time.
“You both have spent time with the president. The fear is that this is some sort of political ploy. Is this a genuine commitment on behalf of the president?” an interviewer said to them.
“I truly think it is a genuine commitment, but let’s say it’s not. It’s still helping a lot of people and getting people out. If it’s life versus criticism, and my reputation, I will gladly walk proudly into the White House and save someone’s life,” Kardashian replied.
In June 2018, Trump commuted “ex-con granny” Alice Johnson’s sentence to time served following a visit from Kim Kardashian. He then signed the First Step Act into law that December.
The lawyer and the law student are still working together on criminal justice reform issues since then, and Van Jones has always praised Kim for her work.
