The Roots, Common, John Legend, D-Nice To Perform At Obama Birthday Party

Another source told The Washington Post that Obama has recruited a doctor to serve as the event's "COVID coordinator," and that guests will be required to present negative test results for the mostly outdoor event.

According to a source, The Roots, John Legend, Common, and D-Nice will all perform at Barack Obama’s 60th birthday bash on Martha’s Vineyard.

According to another source, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, and George Clooney will be among the guests. According to reports, director Steven Spielberg will also be present.

All of the performers we’ve heard about who will perform at the party have ties to former President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama. The Roots previously collaborated on an event called Roots Picnic with the former First Lady’s When We All Vote program.

Legend executive produced “Southside With You,” a film chronicling the Obamas’ first date, while Common performed at the White House’s “An Evening of Poetry.” Michelle Obama and DJ D-Nice co-hosted an Instagram Live party to promote voter registration.

Previously, it was reported that grunge rockers Pearl Jam would perform at the event, but this was denied by an Obama spokesperson. A spokesperson for Obama did not immediately respond to questions about the latest musical acts.

According to reports, the former president is attempting to bring nearly 700 people to the exclusive island for his big party, with 475 expected guests and approximately 200 hired hands. The logistical nightmare of bringing so many outsiders to the island at the same time as a national surge of the COVID-19 Delta variant and new restrictions has locals up in arms.

According to a source, “There’s a shortage of staff on the Vineyard, so everyone and anyone, even people who aren’t in the staffing business is working.”

Another Vineyard local observed of the airport already, “There were way more private jets than usual especially for a Monday. It’s pretty nuts.”

During the continuing pandemic, some people have expressed concern over the extent of the event. Last November, the small island had a supposed super spreader event, which was allegedly sparked by a beautiful wedding that was covered by Vogue and then erased.

President Biden is one of the guests who will be unable to attend, according to the White House. “While President Biden will not be able to attend this weekend, he looks forward to hooking up with former President Obama soon and properly welcome him into the over-60 club,” an official told The Hill.

“His birthday celebration is insane,” one catering employee earlier told The Washington Post of Obama’s plans. His party is a logistical headache at this time of year on the little island, especially given the dearth of manpower owing to the coronavirus. “What is he thinking?” I wonder.

Obama celebrates his 60th birthday on Wednesday. Though his party does not break any restrictions, large gatherings like the former politician’s do not adhere to the Biden administration’s broad principles.
