Angelina Jolie Said She Feared For Safety Of Her Children While Married To Brad Pitt

Judge John W. Ouderkirk granted Brad Pitt joint custody of the former couple's five minor children in May, but a California appeals court disqualified Ouderkirk because he failed to disclose business relationships with Pitt's attorneys.

Actress Angelina Jolie said she feared for the safety of her children and family during her marriage to ex-husband Brad Pitt and that Harvey Weinstein attacked her early in her career.

In a shocking interview with The Guardian, Jolie obliquely discussed her never-ending divorce from Brad Pitt while promoting her new book “Know Your Rights,” she stammered, “I… I’m still in my own legal situation,” including allegations of child abuse leveled against Pitt.

“I’m not the kind of person who makes decisions like the decisions I had to make lightly. It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children,” she told the Guardian.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have six children together, 20-year-old Maddox, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and Vivienne and Knox, 13-year-old twins. Because Maddox is no longer a minor, he is not a party to the ongoing custody battle.

In 2016, the “Tomb Raider” star filed for divorce. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services cleared her husband Brad Pitt of child abuse allegations stemming from an incident involving him and Maddox on a flight from the United States to France.

Despite the fact that the couple is now legally divorced according to a court ruling, they are still fighting over the custody of their children.

Judge John W. Ouderkirk granted Brad Pitt joint custody of the former couple’s five minor children in May, but a California appeals court disqualified Ouderkirk because he failed to disclose business relationships with Pitt’s attorneys.

Ouderkirk has a long history with the family and refused to disqualify himself from their divorce when Angelina Jolie asked him to in a 2020 court filing. In 2014, he married Pitt and the “Maleficent” actress.

Speaking about the past five years, Angelina said the divorce had been ‘traumatic’ and… “I mean, in some ways, it’s been the last decade. There’s a lot I can’t say. I think at the end of the day, even if you and a few people you love are the only people who know the truth of your life, what you fight for, or what you sacrifice, or what you’ve suffered, you come to be at peace with that, regardless of everything going on around you.”

Another issue she had with Pitt during their marriage was his willingness to work with rapist Harvey Weinstein who, she claims, abused her sometime in the past.

“It was beyond a pass, it was something I had to escape,” said Angelina Jolie, who featured in Weinstein’s “Playing by Heart” at the age of 21.

“I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys – don’t let girls go alone with him. I was asked to do ‘The Aviator’, but I said no because he was involved. I never associated or worked with him again. It was hard for me when Brad did.

Angelina said Brad asked Weinstein to work as a producer for the noir thriller, “Killing Them Softly,” which distribution the Weinstein Company later handled.

The actress also said, “We fought about Weinstein’s involvement,” while adding that her ex-husband’s interest to work with Weinstein, “Of course it hurt.”
