Scarlett Johansson Settles Rift With Disney, Announces New Movie

“We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s ‘Tower of Terror”, he added.

American actress, Scarlett Johansson has finally settled her lawsuit against The Walt Disney Studios and announced a new movie with the company.

The actress, who was the world’s highest-paid actress in 2018 and 2019, had sued Disney in July for an alleged $50 million in lost earnings. According to Scarlett, Disney violated their contract when it simultaneously released the Marvel movie, Black Widow on its streaming service, Disney+, as well as, in the theaters.

She had also earlier argued that these moves also had a negative effect on her salary. According to Scarlett’s original filing, her salary for ‘Black Widow’ was based on the movie’s box office performance.

Reacting to the mother-of-two claims, Disney said, “there is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“[Disney] has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of ‘Black Widow’ on Disney Plus with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date”, the studio added.

However, both parties have now been able to settle the disputes and the 36-year-old has also accepted a deal with the film and entertainment studio.

Disney Studios chairman Alan Bergman, in a statement, said, “I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow.”

“We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s ‘Tower of Terror”, he added.
