DC Comics has announced that the superhero, Superman will come out as bisexual in the latest issue of the comic book.
According to the comic book company, the superhero’s sexuality will be revealed in the 9 November issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El.
It was disclosed on Monday that the character, Jon Kent, like his father, Clark, will fall for a reporter and find love with his male best friend, Jay Nakamura.
17-year-old Jon has tackled a variety of controversial topics since the Superman: Son of Kal-El series has begun, including high school shootings, climate change, and the deportation of refugees.
These issues are a far cry from the sinister villains that the Man of Steel once faced.
This new move comes barely two months after DC Comics also revealed in a recent issue of Batman: Urban Legends that Tim Drake, the latest incarnation of Batman’s sidekick was also bisexual.
According to DC, this was to embrace LGBT-inclusive backgrounds for its heroes.
Writer, Tom Taylor said, “I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros share this idea.”
Artist, John Timms also stated, “I’m incredibly honoured to be working beside Tom on the Superman: Son Of Kal-El series showing Jon Kent tackling his complex modern life, while also saving the world from its greatest threats, villains, and menaces.”
