Chris Martin Says Coldplay Will Retire After Their 12th Album

"This is not a joke, this is true, I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue"

Rock band, Coldplay will cease producing records after their 12th album as disclosed by the group’s vocalist, Chris Martin.

While speaking in an interview with Absolute Radio, Martin said: “I think that in a few albums time we will finish making albums.

“This is not a joke, this is true, I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue.”

The band will, however, drop ‘Music of the Spheres’, their ninth studio album, this week meaning that they are just three more records away from quitting the recording studio for good.

However, Chris mentioned that he was against the idea of Coldplay retiring completely, stating his preference for the band to play live shows into their 70s.

Speaking with Andy Bush, the 44-year-old added, “But I think we will always want to play live together.

“So, I think in the way that the Stones do, it will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late 70s. That will be wonderful if anybody wants to come.”

Commenting on Coldplay’s latest collaboration with South Korea’s K-pop sensation  BTS, on single ‘My Universe’, he said,

“It’s just been a real joy to do that song with them from start to finish. It was such a weird idea, and it was so wrong on paper in a way, but it allowed us to bring out our inner boyband and them to bring out their inner old man band and collaborate in a middle-aged band.”

The boyband is made up of vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and pianist Chris Martins; Jonny Buckland who is the lead guitarist; Will Champion, drummer; and Guy Berryman, the bassist. The band was formed in 1996 and after the release of their debut album ‘Parachutes’ in July 2000, the group rose to fame.
