Former US President Bill Clinton was admitted to a hospital in California on Tuesday with a possible blood infection.
According to a joint statement from Dr. Alpesh Amin and Dr. Lisa Bardack, the 42nd commander in chief was taken to the University of California Irvine Medical Center for “close monitoring” and was given IV antibiotics and fluids.

In a separate statement, Clinton spokesman Angel Urena stated that the hospital visit is unrelated to COVID.
According to Urena, the 75-year-old ex-president was still in the hospital on Thursday and was “on the mend” and “in good spirits.”
“After two days of treatment, his white-blood-cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well. He remains at the hospital for continuous monitoring,” Clinton’s physicians said.
Clinton was President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. The former president has had health scares since leaving the White House.
After experiencing prolonged chest pains and shortness of breath, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City in 2004.
During the bypass, surgeons connected two veins from Clinton’s chest and one from his leg to arteries serving the heart.
Clinton was taking medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol prior to the 2004 surgery. Clinton returned to the hospital a year later for surgery on a partially collapsed lung.
The former president had a pair of stents implanted in a coronary artery in 2010.
Following the health scare, Clinton adopted a mostly vegan diet, which resulted in him losing weight and reporting improved health.

He returned to the campaign trail in the run-up to his wife, Hillary Clinton’s, failed presidential bids in 2008 and 2016. Bill Clinton was in New York City as recently as last month.
