A crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival organized by popstar, Travis Scott has left eight people dead and many others injured.
This was disclosed by Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña during a news conference.
It was gathered that eleven people were rushed to the hospitals in cardiac arrest while more than 200 people sustained injuries such as cuts and bruises as a result of the surge.

“The crowd began to compress towards the front of the stage, and that caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries”, Samuel Peña said.
“People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic”, he added.
Politician Lina Hidalgo, county judge of Harris County, also described the incident as an “extremely tragic night”.
“Our hearts are broken, People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories – it’s not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities”, she added.

Scott’s Astroworld concert had drawn about 50,000 attendees this year. The annual event has always been hosted at NRG Park since 2018. 29-year-old Travis shot to fame in 2013 and has since made a name for himself including being an eight-time nominee at the Grammys. He co-parents a child with reality TV star, Kylie Jenner.
