Dan Aykroyd and his wife of nearly four decades, Donna Dixon, have announced Friday that they are going separate ways after nearly forty years of marriage.
The 69-year-old “Blues Brothers” star and Dixon are still legally married and have a “loving friendship,” according to the couple’s joint statement.

“We are now on separate life paths after 39 years as a couple. We are still legally married, co-parents, co-workers, and business partners,” the couple said in a joint statement to People Magazine.
“This is our loving friendship’s choice.”
Aykroyd and Dixon, 64, got married in 1983, just a year after meeting on the set of the comedy “Doctor Detroit.” Meanwhile, Aykroyd was previously engaged to the late Carrie Fisher.
The couple appeared in a number of films together, including “Twilight Zone: The Movie” (1983), “Spies Like Us” (1985), “The Couch Trip” (1988), and “Exit to Eden” (1994).
Danielle (a singer-songwriter who goes by Vera Sola), Belle, 28, and Stella, 24, are Aykroyd and Dixon’s three grown daughters.
In a 2014 interview with The Tampa Bay Times, the Ghostbuster discussed his relationship with Dixon.

“You gotta find the right person look them in the eye, have them look back, and know their soul. She’s a Southern woman who is understanding and doesn’t mind dealing with the boys from time to time,” Aykroyd said.
