Former Republican candidate, Solomon Peña, has been arrested over shootings targeting the homes and offices of individual democratic politicians in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Solomon Peña, an unsuccessful legislative candidate in the 2022 election, is believed to have conspired and paid four other men to fire into the homes of County commissioners and state legislators.

“It is believed that he is the mastermind behind this,” Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina said in a press release.

According to police reports, Peña has been linked to these shootings which include several shots fired at the home of Bernalillo County Commissioner Adriann Barboa.

On December 8, 2022, several shots were fired at the home of incoming Speaker Javier Martinez. It was reported that more than a dozen shots were fired at the home of then-Bernalillo County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley on December 11, 2022.

The shooting at State Senator Linda Lopez’s home, where a dozen shots were also fired on January 3, was linked to Peña.

According to Albuquerque Deputy Commander Kyle Hartsock, “After the election in November, Solomon reached out and contracted someone an amount of cash to commit at least two of these shootings.”

Police say five persons were “involved inside this conspiracy,” one of whom was identified as Jose Trujillo. Two guns were found in the car he was arrested in back on Jan 3.

The police now also have evidence from the last shooting that Peña himself was involved in at least one of the shootings and pulled the trigger in one of the firearms that was used.

State records show juries convicted the former candidate of the Republican party of 19 felonies, including burglary, larceny, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and receiving stolen property.

He spent seven years in prison because of these multiple convictions.

(D) Javier Martinez, New Mexico House Speaker Nominee whose home is among those shot at, said he is grateful the suspect is in custody. “I trust our justice system will hold those responsible accountable.”

According to the Republican Party of New Mexico, these recent accusations against Solomon Pena are serious, and “he should be held accountable if the charges are validated in court. If Peña is found guilty, he must be persecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller condemned the act and termed it a kind of “radicalism” that is “a threat” to the nation.
