China criticized President Biden’s comments of Chinese President Xi Jinping as a dictator, calling it “extremely absurd and irresponsible.”
The latest verbal spat occurred just over a day after Secretary of State Antony Blinken returned from a trip to Beijing to try to thaw a relationship that has reached a historic low.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated that Biden’s remarks at a California fundraiser “go totally against the facts, seriously violate diplomatic protocol, and severely infringe on China’s political dignity.”
“It is a blatant political provocation. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and opposition,” Mao said at a daily briefing.
The purpose of Blinken’s visit, during which he met with Xi, was to ease tensions between the two superpowers, but it did not appear successful.
At the local-time fundraiser on Tuesday night, Biden said that Xi was embarrassed about the recent tensions surrounding a rumored Chinese spy balloon that the Air Force had shot down over the East Coast.
“That’s a great embarrassment for dictators. When they didn’t know what happened,” Biden said

She stated, “The United States should have handled it in a calm and professional manner.” However, the United States used forces and distorted facts to hype up the incident, fully revealing its bullying and hegemony nature.
