On Thursday, President Joe Biden was mocked on Twitter for keeping his hand over his heart during a portion of the Indian national anthem.
Biden appeared to mistake the Indian national anthem for the U.S. national anthem during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, placing his hand over his heart for a portion of the foreign song.
Biden raised his hand to his heart as soon as the anthem started, despite the event MC telling the crowd that the Indian anthem would be played first, followed by the American anthem.
Biden could be seen on video slowly lowering his hand away from his chest after the lively intro notes passed, and it became clear that the song was not “The Star Spangled Banner.” Modi stood alongside him and sang the lyrics to his nation’s anthem.
After hearing the national anthem, Biden quickly put his hand back over his heart and held it there until the song ended.
On Twitter, critics of President Biden had a field day with the error.
Stephen L. Miller, a contributing editor for the Spectator, sent out a tweet that appeared to be sarcastic, writing, “He’s fine. State visit. Running for re-election.”

Alec Sears, a Republican digital strategist, observed, “It would be so funny if it weren’t so sad.”
Jake Schneider of RNC Research tweeted, “Biden, whispering: ‘Listen here Jack, we’re building an Ocean Train from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean. I want you to be the conductor.’”

Lavern Spicer, a former Republican candidate for Congress, wrote on Twitter, “This has me in tears laughing.”
Pro-Trump influencer “Brick Suit,” wrote, “A confused Joe Biden places his hand over his heart for the Indian national anthem. When he realizes his mistake, he sheepishly lowers his hand to his side. Is Joe getting worse?”

Graham Allen, a conservative commentator, found the clip shocking. He tweeted, “OMG!!!!! Biden didn’t realize it wasn’t the National Anthem until the end of this video?! He slowly lowers his hand 30 secs into it.”
