Selena Gomez, took to Instagram on Saturday to mark her 31st birthday and shared with her fans the one thing she wants them to do in honor of her special day, encouraging others to give back.
Gomez stated that rather than receiving a present for her birthday, she prefers that people “donate to the Rare Impact Fund.”

Gomez has consistently raised awareness of mental illness through her platform. In 2020, she established the Rare Impact Fund as “part of her commitment to addressing mental health and self-acceptance,” according to the fund’s website.
Additionally, she has been open about her struggle with mental illness.
It was revealed last year that the singer, who was given a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2020, had previously felt like she didn’t want to live after having a “mental breakdown” during her 2016 “Revival” tour, which she cut short.

“At one point she’s like, ‘I don’t want to be alive right now. I don’t want to live,’” Gomez’s former assistant Theresa Mingus told the camera in the actress’ Apple TV+ documentary, “My Mind and Me.”
