In a devastating blow to the New York Giants, star quarterback Daniel Jones has suffered a torn ACL, effectively ending his 2023 season. The news was confirmed by coach Brian Daboll after an MRI on Monday.

Jones sustained the injury during Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, and it was evident that his right knee buckled as he went down. This unfortunate event comes as a major setback for Jones, who was making his comeback after a neck injury in Week 5.

He had been working hard to recover and get back on the field, but fate had other plans. The Giants’ coach expressed his disappointment, stating, “You never want your guys to go down. He has worked really hard to get back, and it’s unfortunate.”

The injury occurred late in the first quarter when Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby sacked Daniel Jones. Despite trying to shake off the pain, Jones was unable to put any weight on his knee and had to be taken out of the game. Tommy DeVito replaced him as the starting quarterback.

DeVito, who had previously stepped in for an injured Tyrod Taylor in last week’s game against the New York Jets, now faces the challenge of leading the Giants’ offense in Jones’ absence.

The team does not have an emergency third quarterback, so DeVito will have to shoulder the responsibility for the time being. The Giants’ loss to the Raiders was a disappointing 30-6 defeat.

DeVito’s performance was mixed, completing 15 of 20 passes for 175 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. With Jones out for the rest of the year, the Giants will have to regroup and find a way to navigate the season without their star quarterback.

This injury is a significant blow to the Giants, who had invested heavily in Jones during the offseason, signing him to a lucrative four-year, $160 million contract. The team will now have to reassess their options and make adjustments to compensate for the absence of their leader on the field.
