Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time, recently revealed that she experienced a breakdown after her husband, Jonathan Owens, faced backlash following a viral interview on the “Pivot” podcast.
In December 2023, Owens caused controversy online when he claimed that he didn’t know who Biles was before they started dating. Additionally, he stated that he was more of a “catch” than the seven-time Olympic champion.
Addressing the situation on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Biles clarified that Owens never said she wasn’t a catch.

He simply expressed that he considered himself a catch as well. Biles emphasized that she has never met a man like him and praised his character, stating that he goes out of his way to do anything for her.
Initially, Biles found the online backlash amusing, but it eventually started to affect her emotionally. Seeing people attack her husband hurt her deeply. She questioned why strangers were making negative assumptions about someone they didn’t know personally.
Biles shared that she broke down one night, feeling upset and protective of her husband and family. She made it clear that while people can criticize her, they should not come after her loved ones.
Despite the hurtful comments, Biles showed resilience and strength by subtly responding to the online haters.
She left a supportive comment on one of Owens’ Instagram posts, indicating that they were unbothered by the negativity and were committed to each other. Biles chose to rise above the criticism and focus on her relationship with Owens.
Contrary to the internet’s suggestions, Biles and Owens’ relationship remains strong. Owens is even considering skipping his summer training camp to support Biles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Simone Biles expressed her excitement about having him by her side and mentioned that he doesn’t travel overseas often. He recently obtained his first passport for a business trip.
Biles also humorously mentioned that she hopes the Olympics will serve as an ego check for Owens. As a football player, he often argues that football is a more challenging sport than gymnastics.
Biles jokingly questioned why football isn’t included in the Olympics if it is indeed the hardest sport. The couple began dating in 2020 and got married three years later, demonstrating their commitment and love for each other.
