Prince William Reveals His Teenage DJ Name And His Family’s ‘Celebrity Traitors’ Obsession
The Prince of Wales opened up about his brief DJ ambitions, his interest in becoming a police officer, and his children’s enthusiasm for the hit reality show during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

Prince William once dreamed of becoming a DJ, even giving himself a stage name, but the future king has admitted that his musical ambitions never quite took off.
The Prince of Wales shared the story during an appearance on the Oct. 23 episode of The Graham Norton Show, revealing that he experimented with DJing when he was younger. His chosen name was unusual, and his attempt to build a career behind the decks was short-lived.
“I went through a phase where I wanted to be a DJ, which didn't go very well,” William admitted. “And I came up with a name. I was called ‘DJ Xara’ with an X.”
The 44-year-old royal acknowledged that his attempt at becoming a DJ “wasn't good,” prompting laughter from fellow guests Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin, and Hannah Waddingham.

Waddingham was quick to question the prince’s choice of name.
“DJ Zara?” Hannah asked. “That’s rubbish.”
Blanchett, meanwhile, wanted to know more about the unusual spelling. William explained that he placed an “X” at the beginning of “Xara,” accompanying his explanation with a crossing motion of his hands.
“And was that one of your moves?” Cate asked of the gesture.
“No, I didn't do the move,” William replied.
The prince laughed as he recalled how quickly his musical ambitions lost their appeal.
“It rapidly became very uncool,” he said.
Despite his initial enthusiasm, William admitted that he never developed the skills needed to become a particularly accomplished DJ.
“I never got that good,” he confessed.
Prince William Once Considered Becoming A Police Officer
DJing was not the only career outside royal life that William considered during his younger years. The prince also revealed that he once thought he would make a good police officer.
Graham Norton pointed out that William’s height would have been an advantage in the profession, prompting the royal to agree.
“Exactly,” the prince laughed. “Being a policeman, I thought was quite cool.”
Although neither DJing nor policing became his career, William has since taken on his responsibilities as heir to the British throne while raising three children with Kate Middleton: Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.

“I love it, the family love it,” he said. “Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It’s really good telly.”

William also shared a story about meeting one of the contestants from the latest U.K. season, Ross Kemp, after the first episode aired.
The encounter gave the prince an opportunity to see how the actor would react to an unexpected interaction.
“I couldn’t help but try—in the most appropriate way—to touch him to see what reaction I got from him,” William said. “Turns out he was really jumpy!”
From an abandoned DJ persona to a family television obsession, William’s appearance offered a glimpse into some of the interests he enjoys beyond his public role.
