The Social Security Administration (SSA) has begun distributing enrollment instructions for Trump Accounts alongside Social Security cards issued to newborns, giving families information about a federal investment program offering a potential $1,000 contribution for eligible children.

The initiative uses the agency’s existing Enumeration at Birth program to reach parents during the process of obtaining Social Security numbers for their children. The inserts explain how families can enroll in Trump Accounts and seek the one-time contribution from the U.S. Treasury Department.

Under the program’s published eligibility requirements, the government contribution is available for qualifying children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028. Eligible children must be U.S. citizens with valid Social Security numbers.

More than 3.5 million children are born in the United States each year, and the SSA assigns approximately 99% of infant Social Security numbers through Enumeration at Birth, according to SSA press officer Barton Mackey, who spoke to Fox News Digital.

The agency confirmed that parents receiving newborn Social Security cards through the program will also receive the Trump Account information inserts.

How Parents Can Enroll Children in Trump Accounts

The government-issued notice congratulates parents on their newborn’s arrival and explains that eligible children may qualify for a $1,000 Treasury Department contribution to a Trump Account.

Parents are directed to visit TrumpAccounts.gov, download the Trump Accounts app and complete the enrollment process.

After signing up, families will receive communication from the Treasury Department about activating the account and obtaining the government contribution.

The account is opened in the child’s name, with a parent or another designated custodian managing it until the child turns 18.

According to the notice, families are not required to contribute their own money to the account. However, additional deposits of up to $5,000 annually are permitted, subject to the program’s rules.

The $1,000 contribution is intended as an initial investment for eligible children rather than a direct cash payment to their parents.

Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment accounts designed to help children build savings and investments over time. The funds are held for the child’s future, with account management arrangements governed by the program’s requirements.

What the SSA’s Newborn Social Security Card Inserts Explain

The SSA’s role focuses on informing families about the investment accounts and supporting enrollment through an existing federal service.

Enumeration at Birth allows parents to request a Social Security number for their newborn while completing birth-registration procedures at a participating hospital, birthing center or through a licensed midwife.

This process means families generally do not need to submit a separate application at a Social Security office to obtain their newborn’s number.

The new inserts expand on an initiative the SSA announced in July to help parents enroll newborns in Trump Accounts. That effort included plans to update hospital guidance and information distributed with newborn Social Security cards.

By incorporating the notices into the existing mailing process, the agency is using an established system to make parents aware of the investment program.

The Treasury Department is responsible for the federal contribution, while the SSA handles Social Security number processing and related enrollment assistance.

Trump Says Separate Investment Accounts for Adults Are Being Considered

President Donald Trump has also indicated that the investment account concept could eventually be extended beyond children.

During an interview with FOX Business Network correspondent Edward Lawrence on Tuesday, Trump was asked whether Americans could eventually have Trump Accounts for adults. He said a separate approach was under consideration.

"We are looking at something different because it really is somewhat of a different thing, having to do with adults. Yes," Trump said.

Trump also said the initiative had "close to 80 million recipients," adding that the number was "going up rapidly" as companies and wealthy individuals became involved.

The president’s comments concerned a potential separate initiative for adults. The information provided did not establish the details or eligibility requirements of such a proposal.

Fox News Digital has contacted the White House for additional comment on the proposal. The Treasury Department did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.
