Kunini Elected As The New Speaker By Taraba State Assembly

The election was seconded by Ammed Jedua of Gyembu constituency and it was unanimous with all the sixteen present out of the twenty-four members that constitute the House. After taking an oath of the office, the speaker opened the floor for the nomination of the deputy speaker.

On Monday, December 2, the Taraba State House of Assembly has elected Joseph Albasu Kunini and Alh Hamman Adama Abdulahi as the new speaker and deputy speaker of the House respectively.

This occurred after the resignation of Abel Peter Diah and Charles Maijankai from the stated positions respectively. As a result, the house on Monday, December 2 elected Kunini who was nominated by Bonzana Kizito from Zing constituency.

Therefore, Alh Bashir Muhammad made the nomination of Abdulahi who represents Bali. Abdulahi was also elected unanimously since there was no contrary nomination and in his opening and welcoming speech, Kunini promised to work hard to make sure that the House is truly united to function to maximum capacity.

Not a while ago, it was reported that Peter Diah, the speaker of the State House of Assembly offered his resignation as head of the legislative chamber. Diah who confirmed the development stated that it was for personal reasons.

However, he refused to give further details of his actions but promised to speak on it on Monday, December 2. A representative of Mbamga, Diah, the constituency of the state is serving his fifth term and had been speaker since the eighth Assembly of the state.

He was renominated in June 2019 for another term as speaker. He would have emerged as one of the few longest-serving speakers of a House of Assembly if he had completed this term.
