Liverpool beat Tottenham 1-0 with a Roberto Firmino first-half goal to stay 16 points at the top of Premier League table on Saturday, as the European champions stretch undefeated run.
The Reds are making the best out of the season with a peerless start of 20 game victory from 21 games, which has cleared the way for a possible 30-year Premier League title drought end, although Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp played down its significance.
“We know about it and it is special but I can’t feel it,” Klopp said while adding, “When someone gives you a trophy it is done but until then you need to fight. It is only the start. We need to continue because our contenders are so strong.
“Pep (Guardiola, Manchester City boss) will not give up. I will do the same. So far, so really good.”
For the record Liverpool have accumulated a total of 104 points from their last 38 Premier League games. They scored in all their 21 matches this season.
Klopp’s side fought to maintain that record in London as they Battle Jose Mourinho Spurs with Brazilian forward Firmino, who turned Tottenham young debutant Japhet Tanganga and beat Paulo Gazzaniga with a left-foot strike to launch the winner.
Tottenham poor performance at the near end was largely blamed on the absence of Harry Kane who couldn’t make it as a result of Injury. Liverpool then made the best use of the opportunity to push harder to reach the first title in three decades.
Son Heung-Min and substitute Giovani lo Celso ate-up golden opportunities to bring Spurs equalizer in a match that later balanced as time went on.
We must also point out that Liverpool didn’t play one of their best games, there were even spells in the second half when they looked jaded. But the relentless spirit of the team to win the Premier League title help them in winning the game.
