Angelique Kidjo has dented the hope of millions of Nigerians who looked forward to receiving their second prestigious title from Burna Boy at the Grammys 2020 event.

Angelique Kidjo downed Burna Boy to the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album. Hey, she (Angelique Kidjo) quite deserved it, not after she has been nominated severally for the Grammys and Burna Boy had his first nomination.

The Nigerian singer, Burna Boy was nominated in the category for his acclaimed album ‘African Giant’, while Angelique Kidjo was nominated for her album ‘Celia’. The US billboard statistics revealed that Burna Boy was miles away from winning the Grammys, but should celebrate being nominated in the first place.

That’s cleared! Burna was nominated against Angelique Kidjo, Nathalie Joachim with Spektral Quartet, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley and, Altin Gün, many fans were certain this would be his year.

We absolutely think that Burna has a lot to be grateful for as he mounted a major stand on a world stage by being nominated for the Grammys, plus Angelique Kidjo won but kindly dedicated the award to him. Wow! That was a huge recognition and honour, trust me.

Burna bringing home the Grammys would have seconded Sikiru Adepoju as only Nigerians to have won the prestigious award. Right about now, Sikiru Adepoju remains the only Nigerian to have won the Grammys, which he did in 2009 with the “Global Drum Project” a collaborative album with Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain, and Giovanni Hidalgo.
