Facebook Messenger has introduced another feature that could make video calling super fun going forward. The app recently announced a new “Watch Together” feature that will allow you and your friends to view TV shows and other content together during group calls.

The idea was drawn from Facebook’s “Watch Party” feature, which allows friends to view movies from a dedicated page or group. According to Facebook, Watch Together will be more immersive than a Watch Party. Since the watch together will happen during video calls, friends can simultaneously watch video content and their friends’ reactions to it as well.
Here’s how it works, during a group video call or Messenger Room hangout, a participant can choose a clip from Facebook’s video catalog, shows, and other content that can be found in the “Watch” tab, and it will play for everyone in the call to watch.
The limitation is that it doesn’t, support YouTube or videos from other streaming websites, so you can’t really watch whatever you like for now. But the social media platform has hinted that it’s adding some new content to coincide with the feature’s launch).

You do have one other option, though: Watch Together also supports users’ own video uploads, so friend groups can co-watch their own clips while they chat. That could be particularly useful for friends and family trying to stay in touch and keep track of each other’s pets and children, even if it won’t make your next remote Netflix party easier.
SurgeZirc US learned that Watch Together will be rolling out globally to Messenger’s apps in the weeks to come
