Buhari Broken After Seeing Charred Bodies Of Onitsha Tanker Explosion Victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed shock over the incident that took place in Onitsha Anambra State of Nigeria. Buhari said he is troubled by the charred remains of the mother and child who were victims of the Onitsha tanker explosion.

“I am profoundly touched by the sight of the charred remains of an innocent mother and her child who are victims of this tragedy,” Buhari was quoted as saying so in a statement that was released by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu.

“I also extend my sympathies to other victims of the explosion whose houses, shops and other property were destroyed in the mishap.”

The statement further reads, ”While I express sadness over this tragedy, I must at the same time call for urgent action on the part of those concerned to stem these frequent fatal disasters on public roads. Safety precautions and routine maintenance are taken for granted by vehicle owners.”

With the intention to prevent future occurance Buhari said, “I call on the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other stakeholders to urgently address the issue of safety standards in the country, with a view to stemming the embarrassing frequency of these tragedies.”

channelstv had earlier reported of a petrol tanker that exploded in the upper Iweka axis of Onitsha in Anambra State, Nigeria after falling off its lane, leaving a woman and her innocent child instantly dead.

About 40 buildings, ranging from two-storey to four-storey were also razed in the explosion a report claimed earlier.

Further search into the incident revealed that over 500 lock-up shops around the point where the incident took place were also brought down by the fire along Iweka street leading to Ochanja and Menax market.

Authorities have not disclosed what actually went wrong with the tanker in detail, but Surge Zirc gathered that the tanker’s head fell off and went up in flames after spilling its content within the area and so fire spread following the content
