In a recent attack, militants infiltrated areas of southern Israel as rocket barrages were launched from the Gaza Strip, causing widespread damage and casualties.
The Islamist movement Hamas has claimed responsibility for the operation, which they say is aimed at ending the Israeli occupation.

The start of the operation was announced by senior Hamas military commander, Mohammad Deif, who called on Palestinians everywhere to join the fight against the Israelis.
In a broadcast on Hamas media, Deif declared, “This is the day of the greatest battle to end the last occupation on earth,” revealing that a staggering 5,000 rockets had been launched.
Israel’s national rescue service has reported that at least 40 people have been killed in the assault, with over 500 injured, including 77 in critical condition.
Hospitals are working tirelessly to treat the wounded, with Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva, the largest town in southern Israel, taking in 140 patients, some of whom are civilians. Another hospital in Ashkelon is treating 94 victims with varying degrees of injuries.
The situation in southern Israel is dire, with gunmen opening fire on passersby in the town of Sderot. Footage of the fighting shows attacks taking place on city streets.
The Israeli military has confirmed that terrorists have infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, prompting residents in the surrounding areas to stay indoors for their safety.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, addressed the nation in a video message, declaring, “Citizens of Israel, we are at war – not in an operation, not in rounds – at war.”
The Israeli Defence Forces have vowed to defend Israeli civilians and promised that the Hamas terrorist organization will pay a heavy price for their actions.
The situation in Gaza is also tense, with reports of armed clashes and significant movement of fighters along the separation fence with Israel near the town of Khan Younis. The sound of rocket launches can be heard, indicating ongoing hostilities.

The international community has strongly condemned the attacks, with the U.S. National Security Council spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, stating, “There is never any justification for terrorism.”
The United States stands firmly with Israel and extends condolences for the lives lost in these attacks. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has been in contact with Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi to show support and solidarity.
