Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott has shared his insights on what former President Trump should focus on during the upcoming debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.
Drawing on his extensive political experience, Abbott emphasized the importance of letting Harris speak freely and highlighted three critical issues that could shape the debate’s narrative.
Abbott, who has had a long and successful political career, winning three terms as state attorney general before becoming governor, offered a strategic piece of advice to Trump: ‘let Harris talk.’

The governor explained that allowing Harris to speak without the aid of a teleprompter would reveal her inadequacies to the American public. He believes this tactic would showcase her inability to lead the country.
Abbott said, “Let Harris talk. The more she talks without talking into a teleprompter, the more she shows America that she’s really not up to the task.
“If he [Trump] lets her talk and if he focuses on three issues — one is the border, another is the inflation caused by Harris and [President] Biden, and the other is the rapid crime that we see in some cities, caused by people like Harris and [her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim] Walz — Americans are going to understand the last thing they want to do is to have Kamala Harris running our country, because it would be run into the ground.”
Abbott pinpointed three major issues Trump should highlight during the debate:
1. Border Security: As a border state governor, Abbott has been at the forefront of border security issues and frequently clashes with the Biden administration. He emphasized the need to discuss the changes in border policies under the current administration and their detrimental effects.
2. Inflation: Abbott argued that the inflation experienced under the Biden-Harris administration is a critical issue. He asserted that their policies have significantly contributed to many Americans’ economic instability.
3. Crime in Cities: According to Abbott, the rise in crime in certain cities can be linked to the policies of Harris and her allies. He urged Trump to bring this issue to the forefront, arguing that it demonstrates the failures of the current leadership.
Governor Abbott has been a staunch supporter of Trump, having endorsed him for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. He has actively campaigned for Trump, highlighting the importance of addressing border security under Trump’s leadership.
Abbott believes that a second Trump term would be more productive, owing to the experience Trump gained during his first term. He contends that Trump would be well-positioned to quickly implement effective strategies to correct the perceived damages caused by Harris and Biden.
