Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer otherwise called chronic myeloid leukemia, and is receiving treatment while in jail according to sources that reached out to ABC News.

Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein’s authorized legal healthcare agent in New York, declined to comment, adding, “Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

Chronic myeloid leukemia, according to the American Disease Society, is a disease that begins in the bone marrow’s blood-forming cells and spreads to the bloodstream. According to the organization, CML accounts for around 15% of all adult leukemias.

Weinstein is presently imprisoned on Rikers Island in New York, where he has been dealing with several health difficulties as part of his continuing sexual assault prosecution.

Weinstein’s lawyers told newsmen that he was sent to Bellevue Hospital for emergency heart surgery in September after experiencing chest problems.

In July, Weinstein’s agents stated that he was hospitalized for a “myriad of health conditions,” including COVID-19 and double pneumonia.

Harvey Weinstein also had diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in his heart and lungs, and other health issues, according to his counsel at the time.

The former movie magnate is facing sex crime charges anew after his New York conviction was overturned on appeal.

On September 19, while recovering from his procedure, Weinstein pleaded not guilty to criminal sex act in the first degree, citing charges made by a woman who claimed he sexually attacked her once in 2006 at a Manhattan hotel.

The second charge came months after the New York Court of Appeals reversed his 2020 sex offense conviction. He had been convicted of criminal sexual assault and third-degree rape and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Weinstein has rejected all allegations of sexual misbehavior, claiming that his interactions were consensual.
