Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Visit Afghan Refugees At Task Force Liberty

Meghan and Harry requested time with the school-age children who are among the over 10,000 Afghan refugees known as "guests" at Task Force Liberty at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

During their Veterans Day visit to New Jersey on Thursday, British Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle visited Afghan refugee children in their learning rooms.

Meghan and Harry requested time with the school-age children who are among the over 10,000 Afghan refugees known as “guests” at Task Force Liberty at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stopped by classrooms to sing along to “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” one of the songs the children are learning in English. The couple revealed that the song was also a favorite of their 2-year-old son, Archie.

The Duchess of Sussex also assisted the children in learning their colors by holding up various colored markers and having them yell out the name.

The Duke and Duchess sang a round of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” with the Afghan refugee children on Thursday.

The royal couple also spent time talking one-on-one with Afghan children who were eager to practice their conversational English with phrases like, “Nice to meet you.”

The Duke and Duchess used common phrases from the Dari language, one of the two most widely spoken languages in Afghanistan, with both children and adults.

Meghan Markle took the lead in teaching the refugee children their colors during Thursday’s visit.

The night before their trip to Jersey, the couple dressed up for the Salute to Freedom Gala, which was held on Wednesday evening at the Intrepid Museum in New York City. During the event, Harry presented five US service members with the 2021 Valor Awards.

Markle looked stunning in a low-cut red ball gown and a bracelet from her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s jewelry collection.

The jewelry choice was intriguing because, just days earlier, it was revealed that several insiders were unhappy with the couple for sticking with their Netflix deal, despite Diana’s longtime friend and confidante, Jemima Khan, blasting “The Crown” for not handling her story “as respectfully or compassionately” as she had hoped.
